>>What do you do for a living?
I’m chairman of Toraichi Corpration, a working clothes manufacturer and retailer. I also run Naish Surf American, a curry shop right across from Kojima station.

>>Where were you born?
I was born and raised in Kojima, Kurashiki City. The only time I left this city was when I went to college in Osaka.

>>How would you describe Kojima?
A city of textile. My favorite city. Somewhat rural and not crowded. Above all, there’s the ocean. I cannot live for long in a place away from the sea. I like maritime activities. A trip down to the beach itself could be troublesome if you live in the city. Here, you could casually say “Hey, let’s go catch some turbos this afternoon.” It’s quite a place, Kojima.

>>By maritime activities you mean?
The Inland Sea isn’t fit for it, but I’ve been surfing since I was eighteen years old. Surfing isn’t just a pastime for me, it’s part of my life. I also started yachting after I reached thirty years old. My dream is to load my board on a yacht and sail the South Pacific with my friends.

>>How would you describe the Inland Sea?
Busy and crowded in any event. There are many fishing vessels, major sea routes and islands, making it the “downtown” of the ocean. The scenery is wonderful, too. I am proud to show the world the scenery of the Inland Sea, especially at its evening calm.

>>Do you spend most of your day off out at the ocean?
No, I play on weekdays, be it surfing, yachting, or golfing. I spend most of my day off with my wife. Otherwise, I spend time maintaining my yacht and other things.

>>Where do you go to relax?
I go surfing. I return to being a kid when I’m surfing with friends.

>>What is most important in life?
First comes family, then friends, then my company.

>>Who do you respect the most in Kurashiki?
It’s a typical answer, but I’d say Magosaburo Ohara.
